Troopers Search for Missing Boater on the Alabama River

AUTAUGA COUNTY – Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division along with ALEA’s Aviation Unit are currently assisting with the search and rescue effort concerning a missing boater. At approximately 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, James R. Dawkins, 54, of Wetumpka launched what is believed to be a 12ft Jon-boat equipped with only a trolling motor near Shelton Landing on the Alabama River in Autauga County. No contact has been made with Dawkins since he launched the vessel and he is currently missing.
The following agencies are also currently assisting with the search and rescue effort: Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Autauga County Rescue Squad, the Millbrook Police Department and the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
